Marketing IW14

Hey everyone! We are just about a week away from the big moment! Are you getting as excited as we are?

Remember when we wrote about how we were going to spread a poster all around school as a marketing tool for our students and faculty? Well, it has finally been done! What do you think?

So here it is in all its gorgeousness! We used Laurea Tikkurila's colors, turquoise, and Laurea's colors, white and pink. It certainly is something that will catch your eye while walking down the hallways of our school. We decided to design it with bold colors instead of white, because it will now it will stand out and get everyone's attention. Yesterday afternoon we went through the school and put the posters up on walls, bulletin boards and elevators. Here you can see what it really looks like:

Nano Lab Finland

On Thursday the 6th the International Week's guest will have the opportunity to visit Nano Lab Finland. We, the organizing team, went to check it out beforehand. This is what's in store for our guests..

Big business from small technology

Nano Lab Finland showroom brings together Finnish companies who develop and use nano- and micro-technologies in their products and services. The visit introduces you to the up-to-date technologies and solutions that are used, for example, in healthcare and manufacturing. A few of these solutions are also used in Laurea Tikkurila's unit. For example, our dining room is a very noisy place. It has very poor acoustics. In co-operation with the Nano Lab, our dining room chairs got new "felt boots" to the legs. This really improved the noisiness of the room. It didn't, however, completely solve the problem, so there might be new ideas in store for later!

Go check out what Nano Lab is all about!

Scandinavian miracle? Let Michael Booth tell you the truth

For the past few years people are fascinated by the miracle of the Scandinavian country. We all heard about the Denmark's happiness, Sweden's gender equality, Finland's schools, Norway's oil wealth, and Iceland's bounce-back from the financial abyss. We are all fond of positive Nordic news stories for many years; however, in this article Booth had unveiled the dark side of the Scandinavian miracle. Check out this article and be prepared to have your jaw dropped to the ground. What do you think? Come to Finland and see for yourself! :)

Internal Marketing in a Nutshell

Internal marketing is basically a process happening inside a company. The main intention of internal marketing is to make the employees feel like they are customers. (Friesner).

Internal marketing should be as aggressive as marketing to "regular" customers. The message promised in a marketing campaign should be delivered, otherwise the whole campaign will fail. The employees should always be informed about the goal. (Alam).

We made this cool chart which simply explains what internal marketing is.
So this pretty much sums internal marketing up. This is what our internal marketing team is doing in Laurea Tikkurila! Our campus is like a company, our students and faculty being the employees that we need to treat like customers. Our main goal is to get our students and faculty to participate lectures and happenings going on during the week. We need to make everyone here as inspired and interested in this week that we, the organizing team, are! What do you think is the most important thing we need to remeber while marketing the event at our school!

Stay tuned, the final schedule is coming up at the end of this week!

First introduction: LAUREAMKO workshop

One of the International Week's workshops is Laurea's student union LAUREAMKOs workshop about their international activities and especially international tutoring. So here is a little introduction about LAUREAMKO and international tutoring!

What is LAUREAMKO?

The Student Union is part of the University of Applied Sciences and its mission is to act on behalf of the students and as their representative in the matters inside the school. In short, when a decision is made, the Student Union is asked. LAUREAMKO protects the rights of the students, organizes different events and provides student cards and student discounts.

A tutor?

Tutor, a peer support, is usually an older, second year Laurea student.  One of the most important tasks for tutors is to guide the new students to world of studies, school and practical matters of their study programme. Tutors familiarize the new students also into the lively student life and organize the Freshers event for the students together with other actors!

International tutors can either be with the exchange students arriving to different units or with the english degree students.

Find more information from LAUREAMKO and of course, visit the workshop to meet the awesome people from the student union who organize tutoring!
